In case you missed it, we <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/portal\/articles\/cat\/press-releases\/post\/celestron-debuts-50-new-products-for-2013\/\" target=\"_blank\">debuted 50 new Celestron products<\/a> in the last week, including the revolutionary new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/portal\/articles\/cat\/press-releases\/post\/automatically-align-your-telescope-with-celestron-starsense-accessory\/\" target=\"_blank\">StarSense Accessory<\/a>. Using a small camera and specialized hand controller, StarSense turns any current Celestron computerized telescope into a self-aligning tour guide of the universe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/accessories\/navigation\/starsense-autoalign\" target=\"_blank\">StarSense<\/a> has already received a great response from amateur astronomers around the world. But many of you wanted even more information on this nifty new accessory. So, we launched the hashtag #AskTeamCelestron on Twitter and put out a call on Facebook asking you to send us your questions!<\/p>\n<p>We enlisted the help of Bryan Cogdell, the Celestron Product Manager behind StarSense, to answer all your questions in detail. Check out his responses below!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeff B. asks, \u201cOnce the StarSense alignment is successful, can I switch to my CGE Pro\u2019s internal database and use the NexStar hand controller (HC) or ASCOM control from a planetarium program (i.e. Starry Night)? Or am I restricted to the StarSense hand controller\u2019s Sky Tour? This is not good if I have an imaging session set up in Starry Night or Astroart and I can't use them to control the mount.\u201d<\/strong><em><br><\/em>-Yes, you may use planetarium software and control the telescope with ASCOM, just as you would with a NexStar hand controller. \u00a0The StarSense controller will replace the existing NexStar controller for the CGE Pro, but functions the same way with an ASCOM connection to the PC. \u00a0Alignment must be completed through the hand controller first.<\/p>\n<p>To clarify, the StarSense controller replaces the NexStar controller. \u00a0It retains all of the same functions, but with the addition of StarSense Technology automatic alignment, as well as multi-star calibration mount modeling. \u00a0Just like the NexStar controller, the StarSense controller can search by object name or catalog number, and interface with a PC via ASCOM. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeff B. asks, \u201cIs there an internal GPS or is the Celestron GPS accessory needed?\u201d<\/strong><em><br>-<\/em>StarSense does not contain an internal GPS, and does not rely on GPS to perform the alignment procedure. Therefore, there is no need for an external GPS accessory.<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul asks, \u201cCan I use StarSense to align to the sun? I also do sun viewing and it's really hard to get aligned to the sun.\u201d<\/strong><em><br> -<\/em>Yes. Note that as a safety precaution, the Sun must be enabled in the hand controller so it can be used as an alignment option.<em>\u00a0<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephan G. asks, \u201cCan the StarSense Accessory help polar alignment in some way?\u201d<\/strong><em><br>-<\/em>StarSense won\u2019t directly assist in polar alignment. \u00a0However, because the GoTo alignment is very accurate with StarSense, All Star Polar Alignment becomes more accurate. You\u2019ll be more closely polar aligned after just one iteration of the All Star alignment procedure. (This answer applies EQ mounts and CPC + Wedge mounts only.)<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>James D. asks, \u201cMy question is, can StarSense be used as a guide scope for imaging?\u201d<\/strong><br>-Not currently \u2013 the main reason is the 20mm f\/2 lens used in the camera does not have enough focal length to accurately guide longer focal length telescopes. \u00a0We acknowledge this feedback!<\/p>\n<p><strong>William W. asks, \u201cWill the new StarSense Accessory guide me through a polar align on my CGEM DX? Does it replace my hand control?\u201d<\/strong><br>-StarSense replaces the existing NexStar hand controller. \u00a0It does not assist polar alignment. \u00a0It automatically aligns the GoTo.<em><br><\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many of you had specific questions about whether StarSense will work with your telescope. Here are Bryan\u2019s answers:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carlos L. asks, \u201cDoes the StarSense Accessory work with the CGEM? What about with telescopes from other brands?\u201d<\/strong><br> Yes, it works with the CGEM, but it does not work with other brands.<em><br><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dirk L. asks, \u201cWill this work with the Gemini 2 mount?\u201d<\/strong><br> -Sorry, the StarSense Accessory is only compatible with Celestron mounts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>George B. asks, \u201cAre there any telescopes in your current range (and old) GoTos that the StarSense Accessory will not work with?<\/strong>\"<br> -All current mounts are compatible with StarSense, although some require the Aux Port Splitter accessory. The older NexStar i series (not the SE series), Ultima 2000, and early generation GoTos like the Compustar are not compatible. For more information, consult the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/portal\/celestron-starsense-accessory.html\" target=\"_blank\">complete compatibility list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malcolm S. asks, \u201cI own a NexStar 127 SLT and a Celestron C9.25-SGT XLT GOTO. Can you tell me if these two scopes are compatible with the newly released StarSense Accessory? Also, what is going to be the price in the UK?\u201d<\/strong><br> -Yes, compatible with both. For pricing information in the UK, contact <a href=\"http:\/\/celestron.uk.com\/contact_us.php\">David Hinds, Ltd<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jarmo S. asks, \u201cAccording to the StarSense chart of compatible mounts I can't find the CG5 GT GOTO mount there. So it's not compatible?\u201d<\/strong><br> -CG-5 is compatible with the StarSense Accessory, but requires the Aux Port Splitter accessory. We initially neglected to add CG-5 to the list of compatible mounts. Thanks for pointing this out! CG-5 has now been added to the chart.<em><br><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we received one question from Alan K. on our new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/astroimaging-accessories\/guiders\/off-axis-guider\" target=\"_blank\">Off-Axis Guider<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alan K. asks, \u201cWill the new guide product work on my NexStar 6SE? He recently <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/2012-08-12\/delhi\/33167126_1_new-comet-comet-hunters-soho\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"SOHO 2333\">discovered a new comet, SOHO 2333,<\/a> which is a fragment of 96P\/Machholz. In addition to the comet, Sharma has discovered 13 asteroids, 87 supernovas, and 55 variable stars. He uses a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/astronomy-binoculars\/skymaster-25x70-binocular\" title=\"SkyMaster 25x70\">SkyMaster 25x70 binocular<\/a> to aid him in his work. Celestron is thrilled to feature Prafull's articles here on our blog!<br><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>On 12th December 2012 at 06:40 UTC, Asteroid 4179 Toutatis made a close pass by the Earth, coming within 6.9 million kilometers (4.3 million miles) of our home. It was shining at magnitude 10.9 that night. Toutatis passed through the constellation Cetus, into constellation Pisces, and then back into constellation Cetus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><br><img src=\"\/media\/152839\/image_1.jpg\" alt=\"Asteroid 4179 Toutatis\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><em><br>A computer-generated view of Toutatis<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Toutatis is 2.7 miles (4.46 kilometers) long and 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) wide with mass of 5.0\u00d710<sup>13<\/sup>\u00a0kg. It is one of the largest asteroids that comes near our planet and approaches Earth every four years. Although it is half of the size of the asteroid thought to have wiped out the dinosaurs,\u00a0Toutatis poses no immediate danger to us. Astronomers have projected its orbit hundreds of years into the future and concluded that there is no risk of Toutatis colliding with Earth. In fact, astronomers believe Toutatis has been passing Earth\u2019s orbit every four years for billions of years. It will likely continue to do so, harmlessly, for billions of years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Toutatis is a well-known asteroid; it has been studied extensively and its orbit has been fully determined. That\u2019s why it has a proper name, instead of just a numerical designation. Toutatis was first observed and cataloged on February 10, 1934, as 1934 CT, but was lost after a short duration in which it couldn\u2019t be observed. The asteroid remained lost for several decades even though it approached Earth every 4 years. Then, on January 4, 1989, Christian Pollas spotted it. Its orbit was then calculated enough that there was no danger of losing sight of it again and finally the International Astronomical Union (IAU) officially named this object after the Celtic god Toutatis (Teutates).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"\/media\/152840\/image_2.JPG\" alt=\"Path of Asteroid 4179 Toutatis\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><em>Toutatis' orbital path. Credit: NASA\/JPL<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now, Toutatis is known as one of the largest of the Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs). Despite this menacing name, the term PHA simply refers to any asteroid that approaches within 4.6 million miles (7.5 million kilometers) of Earth. That\u2019s approximately 19.5 lunar distances, about the distance of Toutatis at this 2012 passage.<\/p>\n<p>Next time Toutatis will approach at least this close to Earth is in November of 2069 when the asteroid will fly by at a distance of only 0.0198 AU (7.7 lunar distances). Bugs, scopes, teaching\u2013 it is going to be SO. MUCH. FUN.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been reviewing techniques that work and others that are not as successful while using the handheld and stationary digital microscopes. Since it is still so early in the year, I thought it would be a good idea to review my best shots of 2015. I\u2019m getting better and better with the scopes and learning which one to use in each situation. In today\u2019s post I will highlight the two scopes I\u2019m going to use in the teacher training.<\/p>\n<p>Best\u00a0<a href=\"\/browse-shop\/microscopes\/digital-microscopes\/micro-fi-wifi-microscope\" target=\"_blank\">MicroFi<\/a>\u00a0Shots<\/p>\n<p>The MicroFi is a handheld microscope that works in tandem with an app for the iPad.<\/p>\n<p>Why I like it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I love the mobility of this little scope. I can pack it easily for traveling when I have my iPad Mini 3<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s small enough that I can use it with live animal shots. It works well as I\u2019m trying got film or photograph in my small insect cages. We look forward to more blog posts from Tim in the future!<\/span><br><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Birding, one of the fastest growing recreational activities in the world, is very simple, yet somewhat complicated to become involved in. To get started you will need two things; a pair of binoculars and a field guide. In this article, I will discuss various types of binoculars and give recommendations from my personal use and explain the differences between the spread of field guides on the market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Binoculars<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Binoculars come in an assortment of shapes, sizes, and prices. When buying binoculars for the first time, you may become overwhelmed at the overabundance of options to choose from.<\/p>\n<p>Sizes \u2013 8x32, 8x42, 10x42, 10x50, etc. What do these numbers mean? The first number is the magnification. With 8x32 binoculars, the object will appear 8 times larger when looking through binoculars compared to the naked eye. The higher the magnification, the larger the object will appear. This plays a role in the type of birding you will be doing. A lower magnification is superior for birding in lower light conditions and for close encounters (i.e. forest birding), while a higher magnification is valuable when looking long distances in brighter conditions (i.e. hawk watching or field birding). Furthermore, higher magnification binoculars are more difficult to hold steady, which may produce a blurry image.<\/p>\n<p>The second number is the diameter of the objective lens. With 8x32 binoculars, the diameter of the objective lens is 32mm. Ranging from 15mm to over 50mm, the size of the objective lens determines the ultimate weight of the binocular. In other words, the larger the objective lens, the heavier the binocular. Most birders use either 32mm or 42mm objective lenses. 32mm will generally work fine in well-lit areas, but 42mm will conquer any scenario.<\/p>\n<p>I have been using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/sport-optics\/binoculars\/series\/granite-ed-binoculars\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Granite 8x42 binoculars\">8x42 binoculars<\/a> since I started birding. I recently started using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/sport-optics\/binoculars\/series\/granite-ed-binoculars\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Granite Binoculars\">Celestron\u2019s Granite series<\/a>, which are exceptional. Good lighting, bad lighting, wind, whatever the conditions, these binoculars get the job done.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Field Guide<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A good, well written and easy to understand field guide may be more important than a good pair of binoculars. A field guide is essential when deciphering a bird\u2019s identity. There are field guides for whole countries, regions, groups of birds, etc. Big names that stand out are <em>Sibley, Kaufman, Stokes, and Peterson<\/em>. These are probably the four top field guides for birds of North America.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/media\/153251\/fieldguides.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"\" alt=\"Field Guides\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><\/p>\n<p>If you are new to birding, investing in multiple field guides may be beneficial. Each field guide provides varying amounts of information regarding identification, life history, range, status, and distribution. The authors include what they feel is necessary, which varies with opinion.<\/p>\n<p>I prefer the <em>Sibley Guide to Birds of North America<\/em>, because of the excellent illustrations that depict just about every age, sex, and plumage you may encounter in the field. I started out with the <em>Peterson Field Guide to Birds of North America<\/em>, but I quickly adapted to the <em>Sibley<\/em> way of life. The <em>Kaufman Field Guide to Birds of North America<\/em> gives the most information regarding life history, which is helpful when narrowing down a tough identification. <em>The Stokes Field Guide to Birds of North America<\/em> is phenomenal as well, which uses beautiful photographs to depict each species. Photographs are great compliments to illustrations used in other field guides. The bottom line is, the more the merrier when it comes to field guides. Your library can never be too large or extensive. I recommend starting with at least two field guides, with the <em>Sibley Guide to Birds of North America<\/em> as one of your choices.<\/p>\n<p>Most field guides are broken down into region, usually East and West. As a beginner, choosing a region specific field guide can provide a less stressful learning experience as you venture into the world of birding.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, field guides have been converted to digital formats in addition to the hard copies. The digital formats are available as applications for smartphones, tablets, etc. Field guides can definitely be cumbersome; therefore a digital copy can come in handy when walking long distances, hiking, etc. Most come with the same information in a hard copy, plus songs and calls for each species!<\/p>\n<p>There is plenty more to the world of birding including learning bird songs, using spotting scopes, photography, and more. What better way to launch the campaign than at the United States\u2019 premier gathering of amateur astronomers?<\/p>\n<p>We got the ball rolling by asking our own employees to tell us their stories. We heard from a dad who organized a star party at his son\u2019s day care, an astroimager who creates stunning images with high-end Celestron gear, and an employee who uses Celestron microscopes to examine her fossil collection. Since 2008, he\u2019s also been an avid astroimager! John stopped by for a two-hour autograph session at the Celestron booth. But instead of signing movie posters, he signed custom astroimages from his portfolio. SkyQ is an exciting multimedia application which helps you to identify stars, planets and thousands of other celestial objects, similar to our award winning SkyScout Personal Planetarium, which we launched back in 2006. SkyQ though, is used with your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch with a gyroscope. You just need to hold your device up to the sky to see what's up in the sky! Audio, text and Wikipedia links are readily available, so you'll have a full interactive learning experience to help increase your astronomical knowledge. The Mobile Apps showdown consisted of the top ten apps in the industry judged by a panel of technical experts and online voting. Finalists were given only four minutes to convince audience members and judges as to why their company's app was the best of the best. Celestron's Product Development Manager, Jason Fournier, represented Celestron on stage and showed a clever and entertaining video from our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/orangelabs\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Orange Labs Videos Page\">Orange Labs video series<\/a>. The \"stars\" of the video included our own Firmware Engineer, Derik DeVecchio, as Professor O and Marketing Coordinator, Yasmine Rios, as his trusty Lab Assistant Y. For three fun-filled minutes, our actors played out a skit to explain what the new SkyQ is all about but with a sense of humor. Although SkyQ did not win this year's Mobile Apps Showdown, our app did make the top five, which was a major accomplishment that we are all very proud of.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of SkyQ, our new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/portal\/skyq-link.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"SkyQ Link WiFi Adapter\">SkyQ Link WiFi Adapter <\/a>will be soon be available for those who seek complete wireless control of their own Celestron computerized telescope with their iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. Users will need to download the SkyQ app from the App Store first and plug in the adapter into the telescope's Aux port. They will then have the capability of aligning their telescopes wirelessly and making use of its planetarium interface by tapping a celestial object on the SkyQ's view screen \u2013 the telescope will slew right to it! Look for the SkyQ Link WiFi Adapter scheduled for shipping during February 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, the long awaited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/portal\/catalogsearch\/result\/?q=reducer+lens+Edge&amp;order=relevance&amp;dir=desc\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"EdgeHD .7x Focal Reducer Lenses\">EdgeHD .7x Focal Reducer Lens<\/a> will soon be available. This year\u2019s show was especially exciting for us, with the debut of 50 brand new products.<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly, our star product this year was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/portal\/celestron-starsense-accessory.html\">StarSense Accessory<\/a>. After winning the CES Innovations Award in 2011 for our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/astronomy\/series\/skyprodigy-series-computerized-telescopes?cat=4\">SkyProdigy<\/a> self-aligning telescopes, Celestron engineers immediately set to work developing the same self-aligning technology as an accessory. Finally, that dream is a reality with the StarSense Accessory, which consists of a camera attachment and specialized StarSense hand controller. We showed this small-but-mighty accessory on our CGEM 1100 HD telescope. It\u2019s available for preorder now, and begins shipping this Spring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/new.livestream.com\/tpn\/ces2013\">Tech Podcast Network<\/a> spotlighted the StarSense Accessory in their live coverage from CES. It\u2019s in the Day 2, Hour 6 segment, about 13 minutes in.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiterally on your first night out, you\u2019re going to be able to locate some of the most interesting things in the night sky, without having any prior knowledge,\u201d Product Manager Bryan Cogdell explained. \u201cIt\u2019s going to take all the work out for you, so it just leaves the fun part of the experience\u2014using the telescope under the stars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is what I love about Celestron products,\u201d said Daniel Lewis of Tech Podcast Network. \u201cYou\u2019re not stuck with something. You might spend $800 on a telescope, and then you can modify it, you can upgrade just a little part of it, you can add on these extra parts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The newcomer to our telescope lineup, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/astronomy\/series\/advanced-vx-computerized-telescopes?cat=4\">Advanced VX<\/a>, also drew lots of attention at the Celestron booth. Advanced VX is an excellent scope for beginner to intermediate astroimagers. With imaging on the rise, there\u2019s already been lots of excitement surrounding this new product. At CES, we displayed the Advanced VX mount with a 9.25\u201d Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube, but it\u2019s available in many configurations, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/telescopes\/advance-vx\/advanced-vx-8-edgehd-telescope\">Advanced VX 8-inch EdgeHD<\/a>. Advanced VX begins shipping in March.<\/p>\n<p>Some might have been surprised to see giant ants crawling in our booth! We hooked up our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/sports_outdoors\/deluxe-handheld-digital-microscope.html\">Deluxe Handheld Digital Microscope<\/a> to a huge flat-screen TV and pointed it in a gel colony ant farm! The ants put on a great show, and we saw them in stunning detail thanks to the microscope. Product Manager Ron Peters also unveiled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/microscopes\/digital-microscopes\">3 new digital microscopes<\/a>, and the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/sport-optics\/outdoor-electronics\/trekguide-lite-(blue)\">TrekGuide Lite<\/a> digital compass.<\/p>\n<p>Sport Optics Product Manager Josh Lazenby was on hand to introduce more than a dozen new binoculars. The new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/sports_outdoors\/series\/cavalry?cat=67\">Cavalry<\/a> series stood out, with a military-inspired look and built-in gadgets like a digital compass and GPS. Another eye-catching binocular was the ultra-compact, reverse porro <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/sports_outdoors\/series\/cypress-binoculars?cat=67\">Cypress<\/a> series.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors to the booth were amazed when they peered through the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/sports_outdoors\/series\/trailseeker-binoculars?cat=67\">TrailSeeker<\/a> binoculars. This new line was designed for advanced bird watchers and includes high-end features like phase and dielectric coatings. Our reinvented <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/sports_outdoors\/series\/regal-m2-spotting-scope?cat=69\">Regal M2<\/a> spotting scope allowed guests to spy into nearby booths!<\/p>\n<p>With so many new products to display, the only challenge we faced at CES was packing everything up at the end of the show. class=\"page-body-copy\">\r\n\t\t<p>One of our favorite events each year is the Advanced Imaging Conference, where astroimagers from around the world gather to share techniques, show off their images, and see all the latest equipment from manufacturers like Celestron. This year\u2019s conference took place at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Santa Clara in Silicon Valley, California.<\/p>\n<p>Celestron brought four of our expert product managers to the show, so they could speak with attendees on an advanced level about Celestron equipment and answer their questions. It was interesting to listen in on these conversations and hear about the amazing things people are doing with Celestron products. We even met one person who worked for a lab that is researching ways to float an imaging telescope into the stratosphere using a balloon!<\/p>\n<p><img width=\"275\" height=\"183\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8327\/8139799254_ba5e24cfdb_n.jpg\" alt=\"EdgeHD telescopes at the Celestron booth\" style=\"display: block; float: left; margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Telescopes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/telescopes\/cge-pro\/cge-pro-1400-computerized-telescope\">CGE PRO 1400 HD telescope<\/a> dominated our booth and commanded attention at the center of the exhibit hall. Attendees were surprised to learn that the CGE PRO 1100 HD and 1400 HD were among the most affordable telescopes on display at the show! The CGE PRO features Celestron\u2019s EdgeHD technology, which is ideal for astroimaging as it produces an extremely flat field all the way to the edge of the frame. At the show, Celestron unveiled its latest whitepaper, telling the story of EdgeHD technology, how it works, and how it stacks up against more expensive competitor products. Imagers snapped up the whitepapers to read on the plane ride home! Soon, we\u2019ll offer a PDF of the whitepaper for download here on our website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cameras and Other New Products<br><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Team Celestron was also extremely proud to showcase 3 new products that astroimagers have been waiting for: our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/astroimaging-cameras\/nightscape-8300-ccd-camera\">Nightscape 8300 CCD camera<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/astroimaging-cameras\/neximage-5-solar-system-imager-(5mp)\">NexImage 5 solar system imager<\/a>, and reducers for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/astronomy\/edgehd-7x-reducer-lens-11-inch.html\">11 inch EdgeHD<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/portal\/edgehd-7x-reducer-lens-14-inch.html\">14 inch EdgeHD<\/a> telescopes. Visitors to the booth could get hands-on with these new products and see them installed on our telescopes. We also featured a slideshow of images taken with our new cameras.<\/p>\n<p><img width=\"320\" height=\"213\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8049\/8139781417_21079f39f6_n.jpg\" alt=\"Nightscape 8300 CCD camera\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshops<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s sold-out show featured so many interesting workshops, our team had to split up to make sure we could attend as many as possible! I was fortunate enough to attend \u201cThe ABCs of Image Processing,\u201d presented by renowned astroimager Bob Fera. Bob went through his entire workflow for processing astroimages from start to finish, sharing tips and tricks to get the most out of an image. Bob emphasized the importance of not \u201ccrossing the line\u201d when processing astroimages\u2014he demonstrated how to keep the image photorealistic and avoid overprocessing.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to everyone who helped put together the Advanced Imaging Conference 2012! In his series, \"Learning Skyris,\" Grant will explain his process and provide tips and tricks for those new to imaging. We look forward to reading more from him!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>Grant recently visited Celestron HQ for a behind-the-scenes tour and hands-on demo with his new Skyris camera. The first article in his series is a recap of his visit and his first impressions of Skyris and the NexStar 8SE.\u00a0<\/em><br><\/em><\/p>\n<p>As soon as I walked into Celestron's headquarters, I noticed one of the classic orange tube telescopes\u2013one that made Celestron famous back in the 1970's. Next to it stood a newer model NexStar SE series telescope. As I gazed at the two, I was greeted by multiple Celestron staff including Kevin Kawai, Andrea Tabor, Bryan Cogdell, Lauren Stracner, and Paris Martin. Kevin told me about the classic orange tube telescope that I had seen earlier. That Schmidt-Cassegrain was the first of the renowned orange tube telescopes. Today, I was taking a tour of Celestron\u2019s headquarters and getting a hands-on demo of the Celestron NexStar 8SE.<\/p>\n<p>The first room we saw was the Marketing Department where most of the marketing group\u2019s offices are held. The walls here are all orange, the company\u2019s traditional color. After the Marketing Department, we traveled to the lower floor where all of the EdgeHD and other high end telescopes are made.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/media\/153252\/grant-tour-3.jpeg\" width=\"400\" height=\"\" alt=\"Behind the scenes at Celestron\" style=\"float: left; margin: 8px;\"><\/p>\n<p>First, we visited the technician\u2019s area where all of the telescope are repaired, collimated, and boxed. There, I met Hector and Eddie who showed me around the room. At the time, there were dozens of 11 inch EdgeHD telescopes on racks ready to be boxed and shipped. Down the hall were where the mirrors of the telescope are figured, and the corrector plates are specially tuned so they work with the mirrors of the telescope. The primary mirror, secondary mirror, and corrector plate all act as a set from the moment they are matched. Next, we entered a smaller room, where all the coating is done. Exceptional Star Bright XLT coatings are put on all the mirrors and corrector plates to enhance both imaging and visual use. The two coating machines are named David and Goliath. (I guess you can tell which is larger.) The coating process takes about three hours for each set of optics. After being coated, the telescope is assembled into the tube and collimated. Then, it is sent to a room where someone takes pictures of artificial stars with the telescope, showing that the optics are in the finest condition and that the collimation is correct. If there was a question regarding the optics of a telescope, Celestron can pull up these photos to find a solution to the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Leaving the lower floor, we went outside to see Celestron\u2019s new observatory. Before Celestron had this, they setup their telescopes on a mount outside. Now, that aged mount is rusty and ragged, but still stands as a monument to Celestron\u2019s past. We stepped inside to see a type of dual-observatory. One side of the observatory had a classic slit-style dome, and the other had a full opening roof that slid off to show almost the whole sky. We set up the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/telescopes\/nexstar-se\/nexstar-8se-computerized-telescope\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"NexStar 8SE\">NexStar 8SE<\/a> telescope and took our first view through it. We began by looking at the Sun with a white light filter. There was one large sunspot in the middle of the Sun, which showed immense detail. Next, we took a look at Venus which was in a gibbous phase. Now, it was time to test out my Skyris camera for the first time. We looked around the horizon for a detailed object, and one of the Celestron staff pointed out that a nearby oil refinery tower had small stairs at the top. This was the swankiest conference we have EVER been to! The food was incredible (I've been having almost inappropriate dreams of the corn, lime, choyote salad they served) and the digs were very nice. But mostly, we loved the participants we met at this small conference that celebrates teachers, administrators and Ag professionals who recognize the vital role that agriculture science plays in the classroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img width=\"496\" height=\"330\" src=\"\/media\/1243179\/kristie-teaching_496x330.jpg\" alt=\"Kristie Teaching\"><\/p>\n<p>We flew down crazy early on a Thursday and by that afternoon I was teaching a CEU workshop called \"Bugdork: using insects in the classroom to inspire learning.\" I teach about which insects are great to use in a classroom setting, for both student engagement and ease of use on teachers and I set up an old school entomology lab in the back of the room with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/\">Celestron (hyperlink)<\/a> microscopes. (We have a great partnership with Celestron, and I love their equipment so I use it whenever I can.)<\/p>\n<p><img width=\"496\" height=\"330\" src=\"\/media\/1243180\/horns-and-spikes_496x330.jpg\" alt=\"Horns And Spikes\"><\/p>\n<p><img width=\"496\" height=\"330\" src=\"\/media\/1243181\/ladies-horseshoe-crab_496x330.jpg\" alt=\"Ladies Horseshoe Crab\"><\/p>\n<p>That night we were treated to a great expo where we got to sample some products and meet some of our fans! Yes, you read that right. People wanted to take selfies with us! It was very cool. But the coolest thing we did? We met a giant Watusi cow with The. Biggest. Horns. Ever. His name was General. I touched his wet nose.<\/p>\n<p><img width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"\/media\/1243182\/cow-pic_500x375.jpg\" alt=\"Cow Pic\"><\/p>\n<p>After we gave the (awesome, if I do say so myself- when we get the video we will post it here) Keynote the next morning, Jess and I drove to Sedona to see the sights and get our palms read. PANSTARRS was discovered under a comet search campaign conducted by The Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS). The first Pan-STARRS telescope, PS1, is located at the summit of Haleakal? on Maui, Hawaii, and went online on December 6, 2008, under the administration of the University of Hawaii. PANSTARRS is a non-periodic comet, which means that it will never return back to visit us.<\/p>\n<p>In the southern hemisphere, it was accompanied by C\/2012 F6 (Lemmon). Lemmon is a comet having a green coma and a long beautiful tail. Sungrazer comets can be categorized according to their trajectory into the Kreutz group, Meyer group, Kratch group, and Marsden group. Sungrazer comets seem to be fragments of a big comet viewed by Aristotle and Ephorus in 371 BC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"\/media\/152861\/20120314_2112_c2_1024.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"\" alt=\"Comet\" style=\"vertical-align: middle; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Sungrazing comet, courtesy NASA\/SOHO.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>About 83% of the sungrazing comets are Kreutz comets while the rest 17% belong to the rest of the groups. The Marsden and Kracht groups both appear to be related to Comet 96P\/Machholz. These comets have also been linked to several meteor streams, including the Daytime Arietids, the Delta Aquariids, and the Quadrantids. Linked comet orbits suggest that both Marsden and Kracht groups have a small period, on the order of five years, but the Meyer group may have intermediate- or long-period orbits.<\/p>\n<p>In 1979, C\/1979 Q1 (SOLWIND) was the first sungrazer to be spotted by US satellite P78-1, in coronographs taken on 30 and 31 Aug 1979. But since the launch of SOHO satellite in 1995, many small sungrazers have been discovered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"\/media\/152862\/comet-lovejoy-head-tail.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"\" alt=\"Comet Lovejoy\" style=\"vertical-align: middle; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Comet Lovejoy in LASCO C3, courtesy: NASA\/SOHO.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Great Comets of 1843 and 1882, Comet Ikeya\u2013Seki in 1965 and C\/2011 W3 (Lovejoy) in 2011 were all fragments of the original comet. Each of these three was briefly bright enough to be visible in the daytime sky, next to the Sun, outshining even the full moon. Expect great views of Mercury all month long!<br><br><strong>MARCH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>05 March \u2013\u00a0Comet PANSTARRS passes closest to Earth at 1.10 Astronomical Units (AU). One AU equals about 93 million miles, the distance between the Earth and the Sun. In other words, this comet will be slightly farther from us than the Sun, so there are no worries about it hitting us! The Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii discovered this comet in June, 2011. Since comets carry the names of their discoverers, it has been designated C\/2011 L4 (PANSTARRS). The comet is expected to be visible to the naked eye, but should look even better through a telescope or binoculars!<br><br> 20 March \u2013 The first equinox of 2013. On this day, the Sun\u00a0shines directly on\u00a0the equator, resulting in precisely 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night.\u00a0This\u00a0is\u00a0also\u00a0the first day\u00a0of\u00a0Spring\u00a0in the Northern Hemisphere\u00a0and the first\u00a0day of\u00a0Fall in the Southern Hemisphere.<br><br> 29 March\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Uranus and the Sun come into conjunction.<br><br> 31\u00a0March \u2013\u00a0Mercury reaches its the highest elongation: 27.8\u00b0W\u00a0at\u00a024:00.<br><br><strong>APRIL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18 April\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Mars and the Sun come into conjunction.<\/p>\n<p>21-22 April \u2013\u00a0The Earth passes through the remnants of Comet Thatcher 18611, and we experience the Lyrid meteor shower. The Lyrid\u00a0meteor shower--a medium-intensity shower radiating from the constellation Lyra--usually produces\u00a0about 20 meteors per\u00a0hour.\u00a0The Lyrids can\u00a0produce\u00a0bright\u00a0dust\u00a0tails lasting a few seconds.\u00a0This year, the\u00a0Moon will not\u00a0be visible during the Lyrids, so they should put on\u00a0a good show.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>25 April \u2013\u00a0A partial eclipse of the Moon.\u00a0Earth\u00a0is between Sun and the Moon, causing Earth's\u00a0shadow\u00a0to partially cover the lunar\u00a0disc.\u00a0The eclipse\u00a0will\u00a0be visible\u00a0mostly\u00a0from\u00a0Africa, Europe,\u00a0Asia and\u00a0Australia.<\/p>\n<p>28\u00a0April\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Saturn\u00a0reaches opposition. On this day, the planet\u00a0is closest to Earth\u00a0and its face\u00a0will\u00a0be fully\u00a0illuminated by the Sun.\u00a0This is\u00a0the best time\u00a0to view and\u00a0photograph\u00a0Saturn and its moons!<\/p>\n<p><strong>MAY<\/strong><br><br> 05 - 06 May \u2013\u00a0Earth passes through the remnants of Halley\u2019s comet producing the Eta\u00a0Aquarid\u00a0meteor shower. This shower usually produces\u00a0about 10\u00a0meteors per\u00a0hour.\u00a0However, the full Moon\u00a0puts a damper on observations this year. Your best shot at seeing a meteor is to look east after midnight.<\/p>\n<p>10 May \u2013The Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun, producing the Annular Solar Eclipse. A ring formation along with Baily\u2019s beads is visible in Western Australia and over the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>25 May \u2013 Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. The second lunar eclipse of the year occurs at the Moon's ascending node in Scorpius about 7\u00b0 northwest of Antares. The eclipse is visible from North America, South America, and the western coast of Africa.<\/p>\n<p>28\u00a0May\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Conjunction\u00a0of Venus\u00a0and Jupiter.\u00a0The two\u00a0brightest\u00a0planets\u00a0come within 1 degree\u00a0of each other in the night sky.\u00a0Mercury\u00a0is also\u00a0visible\u00a0nearby.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JUNE<\/strong><br><br> 13\u00a0June\u00a0-\u00a0Venus\u00a0reaches perihelion,\u00a0its the\u00a0closest point\u00a0to the Sun.<\/p>\n<p>19 June\u00a0-\u00a0\u00a0Jupiter and the Sun\u00a0come into conjunction.<\/p>\n<p>20 June \u2013\u00a0The first solstice of 2013. The North\u00a0Pole\u00a0of the Earth\u00a0is\u00a0tilted\u00a0towards the Sun. Observers will see the Sun\u00a0reach\u00a0its northernmost position\u00a0in the sky.\u00a0This\u00a0is the first day\u00a0of\u00a0Summer\u00a0in the Northern Hemisphere\u00a0and the first\u00a0day of\u00a0Winter\u00a0in the Southern Hemisphere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JULY<\/strong><br><br> 03\u00a0July\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Venus comes into conjunction with the Beehive star cluster.<\/p>\n<p>05\u00a0July\u00a0-\u00a0Earth reaches aphelion, our planet\u2019s furthest point\u00a0to the Sun at 20:59.<br><br> 28 - 29 July \u2013\u00a0The South\u00a0Delta\u00a0Aquarids shower should produce\u00a0about 20\u00a0meteors per\u00a0hour.\u00a0The radiant\u00a0point\u00a0for these\u00a0meteors\u00a0is\u00a0in the constellation\u00a0Aquarius.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AUGUST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>12-13 August\u00a0\u2013 The Perseids, one of the best and most famous meteor showers, takes place. The Perseids\u00a0can produce\u00a0up to a whopping 60 meteors per\u00a0hour at peak\u00a0hours! Look for the meteors near the radiant\u00a0point in the constellation\u00a0Perseus.\u00a0These meteors originate\u00a0from\u00a0the tail of Comet Swift-Tuttle.<br><br> 27 August \u2013\u00a0Neptune reaches opposition.\u00a0The planet is closest to Earth and fully illuminated by the Sun. This is the best time to observe Neptune.\u00a0Because of\u00a0its\u00a0distance, it will appear as a\u00a0tiny\u00a0blue dot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEPTEMBER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>08 September \u2013\u00a0Venus\u00a0is visible 0.4\u00b0\u00a0north\u00a0of the\u00a0Moon.<br><br> 22 September\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The second equinox of 2013. From this day forward, days start getting longer in the Southern Hemisphere and shorter in the Northern Hemisphere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OCTOBER<\/strong><br><br> 03 October \u2013\u00a0Uranus\u00a0reaches opposition.\u00a0 The\u00a0blue-green planet\u00a0will\u00a0be closest to\u00a0Earth\u00a0and fully\u00a0illuminated by the\u00a0Sun.\u00a0This is\u00a0the best time to observe\u00a0and photograph\u00a0Uranus.\u00a0Because of\u00a0its\u00a0distance, it will appear as a small\u00a0blue-green dot.<\/p>\n<p>18 October \u2013 The last lunar eclipse of the year is a relatively deep penumbral eclipse. It should be easily visible to the naked eye as a dusky shading in the southern half of the Moon. This eclipse is visible everywhere on the planet, except Oceania and parts of Siberia. <br><br> 21 - 22\u00a0October \u2013 Another famous meteor shower takes place, the Orionids.\u00a0The Orionids produces about 20 medium-intensity meteors per hour.\u00a0Look for meteors in the mornings from October 20 to 24. The First Quarter Moon\u00a0will set\u00a0before midnight,\u00a0leaving a\u00a0dark\u00a0sky.\u00a0The Orionids also originate from Comet Halley. <br><br><strong>NOVEMBER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Throughout November, the sky is illuminated by the recently-discovered Comet C\/2012\u00a0S1\u00a0(ISON). If there is no fragmentation of the comet, it will brighten the sky as it approaches the Sun. The comet\u00a0will be at\u00a0perihelion\u00a0(its closest point to the Sun) on\u00a028 November,\u00a0at a distance of\u00a00.012\u00a0AU\u00a0from\u00a0the center of\u00a0the Sun.<\/p>\n<p>03 November \u2013 We experience a rare hybrid annular\/total eclipse. Some sections of the path are annular, while other parts are total. The hybrid eclipse of 2013 is visible within a thin corridor traversing the Northern Atlantic and equatorial Africa.<\/p>\n<p>17 -\u00a018\u00a0November \u2013 The Leonids\u00a0meteor\u00a0shower takes place. You\u2019ll be able to observe about 40\u00a0meteors per\u00a0hour. Leonids\u00a0have a\u00a0cyclic peak\u00a0year\u00a0every 33\u00a0years when\u00a0hundreds of\u00a0meteors\u00a0can\u00a0be seen\u00a0each\u00a0hour.\u00a0Unfortunately, the last\u00a0time\u00a0this\u00a0phenomenon\u00a0occurred\u00a0was in 2001, so we\u2019re still a long way off from another peak. The meteors radiate\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0constellation\u00a0Leo\u00a0after midnight, originating from the\u00a0tail\u00a0of the\u00a0Comet Temple-Tuttle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DECEMBER<\/strong><br><br> 13 -\u00a014 December\u00a0\u2013 We save the best meteor shower for last, the Geminids.\u00a0This shower is known\u00a0to produce\u00a0up to 60\u00a0multicolored meteors\u00a0per hour.\u00a0You\u2019ll spot the most meteors on or around\u00a0December 13 and\u00a014,\u00a0although some\u00a0meteors should be\u00a0visible\u00a0in the weeks before and after.\u00a0 New Moon\u00a0will\u00a0guarantee a\u00a0dark\u00a0sky, so the Geminids will be a wonderful show.\u00a0The best\u00a0observation is\u00a0to the east\u00a0after midnight\u00a0in a\u00a0dark area. You\u2019ll see the meteors radiating from the Twins.<br><br> 21 December \u2013 The second solstice, when the\u00a0South\u00a0Pole\u00a0is towards the Sun.\u00a0This is the first day\u00a0of\u00a0Winter\u00a0in\u00a0the Northern Hemisphere,\u00a0and the first\u00a0day of\u00a0Summer\u00a0in the Southern Hemisphere.<br><br> 26 December \u2013 You might have a favorite song you like to listen to, or method of assembling your scope to make sure nothing gets lost. We asked our 16,000 friends on Facebook, \"Besides your telescope, what do you like to bring with you for a night of stargazing?\" From your responses, we put together the ultimate packing list for your next stargazing trip\u2014whether it\u2019s to a remote dark-sky site, or your own backyard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friends and family<\/strong> \u2013 Stargazing is more fun when you share it with others! Perhaps you could introduce your kids or neighbors to astronomy. Or, as many of our fans suggested, bring your sweetheart for a romantic night under the stars.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eyepieces and Telescope Accessories \u2013<\/strong> Don\u2019t forget your favorite telescope accessories such as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/astronomy\/celestron-lens-shade-c11.html\">dew shield<\/a>, Barlow lens, moon filter, or nebula filter. Celestron employee Kevin K. recommends bino viewers for a 3D observing experience! Most Celestron tripods include an accessory tray so you don\u2019t lose anything.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beach towel<\/strong> \u2013 Speaking of accessories, Facebook fan David P. recommends laying down a beach towel underneath your tripod legs. \u201cThat way if something falls, there's a soft place for it to land and I can find it easier,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Binoculars<\/strong> \u2013 Binoculars are a great tool for observing the night sky. David M. recommends the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/astronomy\/astronomy-binoculars\/skymaster-25-125x80-zoom-binocular\">Celestron SkyMaster 25-125x80 Zoom Binocular<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Red flashlight<\/strong> \u2013 It takes your eyes a while to adapt to darkness, which helps you see finer details in your telescope. Use a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/sports_outdoors\/celestron-flashlight-night-vision.html\">red flashlight<\/a> to provide visibility while your eyes are dark-adapted. You can also deck out your tripod legs with red lights so that people don't trip on them in the dark. And don\u2019t forget red filters for anything that emits light, like your laptop or smartphone screen!<\/p>\n<p><strong>White headlamp for cleanup<\/strong> \u2013 When you\u2019re done observing, a regular white headlamp can help you clean up quickly while keeping your hands free. Thanks to Josh L. for this tip!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laser pointer<\/strong> \u2013 If you\u2019re observing in a group, a green laser pointer can help you point out objects for everyone to see. Be careful to observe all laws regarding laser pointers where you live.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lens cleaning tool<\/strong> \u2013 Bring a small tool to clean your optics, especially if it may be windy or dusty. Make sure your brush is specifically made for lenses and optical elements, like our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/sports_outdoors\/celestron-lenspen-optics-cleaning-tool.html\">LensPen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Level<\/strong> \u2013 If your tripod doesn't have a built-in level, a simple bubble level is a real time-saver when you\u2019re setting up your tripod!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Toolbox<\/strong> \u2013 In case anything goes wrong, James F. keeps a toolbox handy for on-the-spot equipment adjustments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hair dryer<\/strong> \u2013 If moisture or humidity may pose a problem, Michael P. recommends bringing a small hair dryer along to zap water off of your optics!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img width=\"640\" height=\"426\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8190\/8145202603_562798db6e_z.jpg\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Photo by Marisa Dominello<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Star maps\/Smartphone app<\/strong> \u2013 Star charts are a great way to navigate the night sky. Now, you have the option of using a paper star chart or a digital one. Our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skyqapp.com\">SkyQ app<\/a> for iPhone and iPad includes audio descriptions of over 200 celestial objects. And with the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/astronomy\/accessories\/skyq-link.html\">SkyQ Link<\/a>, you can also use your mobile device as a hand control for your telescope.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Handouts for beginners<\/strong> \u2013 If you\u2019re going to a star party or bringing someone who\u2019s new to observing, it\u2019s a good idea to have some printed materials covering the basics of astronomy. If you\u2019re observing in a crowded public place, people may stop and ask you about what you\u2019re doing, so these can come in handy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Protection from wildlife<\/strong> \u2013 Many of our fans told us that they observe in dark sky locations near bears, mountain lions and other dangerous wildlife. Make sure you take safety precautions when going to places like this!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Power <\/strong>\u2013 Make sure you have enough power for your telescope and other electronic gadgets. A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celestron.com\/browse-shop\/spare-parts\/ac-adaptor-for-powertank-17\">Celestron Power Tank 17<\/a> and a few spare batteries should do the trick.
